Pasta chips were always around but they were deep fried, air frying the pasta is a new and trending recipe these days. You can make these pasta chips with any pasta you have on hand, but making with chickpea pasta is so much better and healthier because of the high protein and fiber content in the chickpea pasta. They almost taste like spicy, crunchy roasted chickpeas!

Using an air fryer makes life so easy, especially for deep frying stuff. I make all my fried food in an air fryer and it gets the job done so good! I love my Air Fryer!

How to make the Air Fryer Chickpea pasta chips?

Its so easy! First we boil the pasta, drain it, season it and “Fry” it in the air fryer. You can use the regular boiling method to cook your pasta but I love using my Instant pot. It gets the job done without boiling and checking the pasta all the time. Please use whatever method you are comfortable with.

  • First, cook the pasta Al Dente. Since, I am using chickpea pasta, I cook for only 2 minutes in my Instant pot. If you are using regular pasta, cook for half the time mentioned on the package minus 2 minutes for Al dente pasta. If you not using Instant pot, cook the pasta as per the box instructions.
  • Add pasta, water, a splash of olive oil and salt to the pot.
  • Close the lid and set the time to 2 minutes in pressure cook/ Manual mode, vent in sealing position.
  • As soon as the timer is done, Quick release very carefully. Drain the pasta and rinse it with cold water. Normally, I wouldn’t do that with pasta dishes but for air frying, we need the pasta really firm and just done.

  • Transfer the drained pasta to a bowl. Add a splash of oil, flavorings and spices of your choice and gently toss the pasta to coat it evenly. I add paprika or red chili powder, garlic powder and a pinch of salt.
  • Add the pasta to air fryer and Air fry at 370 Fahrenheit(190 Celsius) for 10-15 minutes or until the pasta is crispy. Shake the basket and toss the pasta every 5 minutes. Each air fryer is different, so the timings might vary depending on the type of the pasta used. Adjust the timings as needed, until the pasta is as crispy as you like.
