Why to make homemade jam?
I love making Jam! My mom made different kinds of jam and we remember dunking our toast, dosas, chapathis and even Idlis in jam. My favorite was the pineapple jam and I still remember the warm and sweet flavors of homemade jam. I want to keep those memories alive and make new memories with my kids with locally available fruits. Berries are in abundance in summer, in Seattle, and we love going blueberry picking. This was last weekend’s loot and we plan to do this at least 2 more times this summer. If you ever drive up north, make sure to visit Mountain View Blueberry Farm in Snohomish, Washington.
But why make homemade jam, because we can! Because its so easy to make it with all-natural ingredients, control the amount of sweetness that goes into it and also to make it preservative-free. I don’t add any pectin, any preservatives at all and use maple syrup as my sweetener. I also add lemon juice and lemon zest for bright and popping flavors and add ton of healthy Chia seeds. This jam tastes so good on toast but also super delicious on my homemade yogurt. Its so easy!
What are Chia Seeds?
Chia Seeds are super seeds that are rich in fiber, protein, Omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants. They absorb 12 times their weight in water when soaked in liquid and develop a gelatinous texture which makes it a perfect medium to soak up the juices in the jam and thicken it. Omega-3s are very important and it is suggested to have any kinda Omega-3 supplements 3 times a day. This Jam covers one dose of your Omega-3s needed for the day.. so go ahead indulge in this jam!
